She and her mother eventually fled through Bulgaria and Turkey, and by the time Dragana was 18 she began to pick up freelance work as an armed escort for government agencies and academic teams seeking to secure and protect various archaeological and ancient historic sites. She has traveled throughout eastern Europe, the Mediterranean and extreme sub- and arctic climes as far north as Kamchatka.
