"The better I get to know men, the more I find myself loving dogs." ~ Charles de Gaulle Background Sarinah "Sari" Kam comes from an Indonesian family that immigrated to Southern California a few generations ago. They parlayed knowledge of herbs and medicine into a growing number of apothecaries and pharmacies, and later would come to own farms and distribution networks involved in the trade.. Known for their wide-ranging stock of natural cures, the family business found many adherents among California's progressive population. When certain recreational pharmaceuticals were legalized, the family holdings were in an excellent position to expand their offerings, and they now hold a fair-sized portion of the market in California. Sari thus grew up in relative wealth, but her parents encouraged her to find her own path forward rather than follow in the family footsteps. Attending UCLA, she chose veterinary sciences as her major. After, she continued through veterinary school and recently graduated as a Dr. of Veterinary Medicine. With a leg up from her family, Sari opened an animal hospital and pet spa. The kind of fancy place that celebrity pet owners love to turn to. The business has been an unqualified success, enough so that Sari has been able to open two animal hospitals in low income areas, and charge only slightly above cost to help the people there afford quality care for their fur-bearing loved ones. Sari built a ranch house along the Pacific Coast at a site that once held a lighthouse. The ranch house has a smaller attached lighthouse tower that provides the master bedroom with a fantastic view. On the ranch she raises a small number of cattle, sheep, and chickens. It also affords her a chance to raise some more exotic pets such as llamas, and other animals she might encounter that need care and rehabilitation. She has received all the relevant licenses for such animals. Sari volunteers with the local humane society, and is often called in by law enforcement to care for and find homes for neglected and abused animals, as well as some more exotic species that they are not equipped to handle long term.
