Description
The old school bulb-and-neon sign that hangs above the door outside reads, "Cole's, Originators of the French Dipped Sandwich, Since 1908, Cocktails." This place has been a landmark in Los Angeles for over a hundred years, and they are the self-proclaimed home of the French Dip. Very casual, bright, and inviting, the interior is a long rectangle with a bar taking up almost the entire length of one wall and narrow, two-person booths lining the other. The effect creates a hallway that allows patrons and servers to walk between the two from the front of the restaurant to the back. Except for the sheer amount of dark wood paneling and faded brown leather seats, it might even be reminiscent of an old school diner to some.
The bar itself is fully stocked and lined with a dozen or so plain stools. Menus are provided for guests that contain both a lunch and dinner choices as well as a cocktail list. Not far from the main entrance, tucked into a small front corner, a small stage is set up where local performers can set up and play. Speakers, a microphone, and a little sound board are already provided.
In the back of the room, there are a few of doors and a small pile of kegs (some full and some empty). A couple of the doors are labelled as restrooms. One of the doors has an elaborate placard that reads, "The Varnish."
