There are those who fit in, and make themselves more important by stepping on others. And then there are the stepped on. You can probably guess which Maria is. Her petite stature and rumors of Romani heritage were enough for the Mean Girls to single her out. Her friends were subjected to ridicule for slumming, and interested boys were bullied in shows of power by the popular kids. Her figure, slim and boyish at best, didn't help matters. Maria's school days were near to ending by the time the girl bloomed late. She lost her baby fat which brought out the girl's lovely, delicate features to reveal an enchanting face. Maria's body grew more overtly feminine. Enough no one would call her boyish outside of the most curve-concealing clothes. But the damage was done. The compliments she started to received felt hollow or false and could not overcome her firmly ingrained low self-image. Maria's home life, unfortunately, was no respite. With a drunk and abusive father and an adulterous mother strung out on pain pills, it was little wonder she she'd finally foregone that life for one on the streets. Getting by, sleeping in shelters, squats, even the occasional carboard box. Doing odd jobs for a meal, or panhandling to get by. L.A. is a glitzy town, but behind the facade is a dark place that Maria has come to know too well. More recently, she saved a friend at the cost of incurring a debt to an unpleasant loan shark. No good deed goes unpunished. The homeless girl had to seek the kind of work she'd always avoided, dancing at one of Hollywood's not-exactly premium clubs. On a good week it's just enough to keep up with the interest payments. She just hopes she doesn't have any bad weeks. RP Hooks Homeless:Crashing in your building's stairwell or under your porch.
