"Two things are infinite: The universe, and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe."
― Albert Einstein
The Most Beautiful Thing:
We can experience is the mysterious.
It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead:
"It's the fuckin' Journey, innit. Proper bloody infuriatin', not a bloody speck'a dust or grime, not a fuckin' hair outta place, no dorito crumb, no mustard stains, -nothin'-. S'unnatural, that is, and I'm havin' none of it. Sommit's fucky, for sure."
"Get it? Eh? Didje, aye? 'Cause Jaggy Net--ah, forget it. Aren't so sure what this is, chickadee, I'm not, but I do well believe it could be the start of a beautiful friendship. We don't gotta make sense, diddums, always remember that ... aren't our fault if them ain't got the eyes to see."
"So don't be a stranger, eh? Aye. A touch of the mystical, a twist of the hermetical, a kiss of the unnatural; I've often found I'm more fond'a the weird ones, me. Them lot speak to my so-called 'heart', them do... them're what makes the world a little less mundane. Anythin' what makes this city a little less borin' is sommit what I'm keen to keep around."
Hear us, touch us. We are broken. Many times we die-die. Change bodies to burn and still back we come. Many times, again, and again, and again, forever-ever.
― David Guymer
[[Never Alone]]:
Vex has a saying: "It's important to know that in the darkness, you might not be alone. It's more important to remind your enemies: Neither are they." It's hard to say exactly what she means by the comment, but it certainly can't be anything good. It has been said that you're never alone when you count the voices in your head, and it's possible that she has quite the social circle, but who can confirm such a thing when nobody's ever invited, and the cover charge is so steep even if they were?
[[Attitude Problem]]:
Vex hates everyone. Well ... hate might be a strong word. Actually, no, that's the right word. It does, however, not tell the whole story. Her unmitigated genius (some might say madness) often lends a biting edge to her personality that can be uncomfortable at best, and downright cruel at its worst. Hopelessly useless at the social aspect of human interaction, she doesn't even bother to try to mask her feelings on any given topic, feeling that everyone is entitled to her opinion ... whether they want it or not.
[[SCIENCE!]]:
Well, sort of. Vex is unbearably skilled in the fields of computing and mechanics (and she's more than happy to tell you such), earning her the moniker "Dumpster Diver MacGuyver" in certain circles. It's said that if she's approached with an offer that she believes might benefit her, she can make damned near anything for you, out of barely anything at all. The trick? Figuring out what it is she sees as a benefit.
[[Security]]:
It's a state of mind. ... It's also a service that she provides, of both the physical and cyber variety. Need a system set up? Have a unique and dangerous issue, and need unique -- and occasionally unhinged -- methods to deal with it? Do you like Home Alone? Do you like /LASERS/? Boy, does she have something special for you, my man/woman/other. Someone steal your information, and the authorities have been -- as expected -- useless in recovering sensitive and very personal data? Come into her parlour. (Small print: There is no parlour. Send her an email.)
[[OH SHIT, IT'S A RAT!]]:
She doesn't exactly go around advertising it to others, but Vex is, indeed, a Rodens ratkin. Those that share her ratty nature, of course, are more than welcome to know of her and her funny little games, and in fact have likely heard about her even if just in passing. She is known to provide safe crash spaces to rats in need -- y'know, once her security checks have come through.
[[++ PRAISE THE OMNISSIAH ++]]:
Vex loves Warhammer. I'm sure it would be a shock to know of her deep love of the Skaven, but it should be said, in any case. Not into Fantasy? Don't worry, there's always the Adeptus Mechanicus. Don't want to talk (Or listen, more accurately) to hours worth of conversation and information that you didn't ask for, and don't really get? Don't ask her about it. That said, her mind is a keen strategic machine, should one be looking for unique solutions to difficult situations, rather proud of her history of 'unlikely wins'.
[[GET SHREKT]]:
Vex is known in particular gaming circles, certainly -- the more obscure, the purposely retro. Want something from her, but have no way of enticing her nonsensical desires? It's a safe bet that an ancient console in working order would be enough to get her attention. Don't have one of those, but REALLY need her help? Try challenging her to a game of Mario Kart, or Smash, and try your luck.
[[British]]:
From the mean streets (or sewers, more accurately) of London. She spent time in New York, as well, before coming to Los Angeles for reasons that are never fully revealed. From the sounds of her, she is definitely not from the more posh of places, and was known well in the Punk scene before her departure. Furthermore, those that spent a lot of time in the less savory parts of Glasgow might also recognise her -- especially if they were around for that whole razor gang violence debacle a few years back. (Which one, right?) Yikes.
[[Occultism]]:
It's not exactly something would suspect of dear old Vex, but those that have a mind to ask might find that she's shockingly learned on the more esoteric of topics. In fact, rumour has it that she has an extensive library dedicated to the more arcane and archaic of things, though there's no way of confirming such a thing.
[[Tantrums]]:
You have no idea. You'll get one, should you manage to insult her genius, or screw up her carefully laid plans. That said, she tends to forgive and forget pretty quickly. Well, maybe not forgive, but certainly forget. That's sort of the same thing, right? Get her mad enough, and you might even meet Smirk. Who's Smirk, you ask? A gal's gotta keep a little mystery.
[[Never Her Fault]]:
Enough said.
[[Unfettered]]:
Vex refuses to bend to the will of the warrens. She is a rambler, as is made clear by the seemingly endless sprawl of tattoo scrawl that marks her skin. Obsessed with her own freedom, she has become somewhat of a champion for the freedom of others, and is likely to be riled into action if she observes such a thing in danger.
[[Hacktivism]]:
Known as Vex Vile online, or by her handle urobuRAT, she is deep into the realm of hacktivism. Run in the same circles? Might have heard of her.
[[Investigation]]:
She's very good at learning the things nobody wants her to know. Doctors hate her. Learn her one strange trick.
[[Trafficking]]:
As someone that refuses to bend, or to be confined, Vex has a burning hatred of traffickers. She avidly assists in the location and recovery of trafficking victims the world over, and has likely worked from time to time with more official industries in the past. Perhaps you ran into her working in the industry -- for or against.
[[Predator of Predators]]:
She has an even deeper hatred of sexual predators, and has moved to L.A. specifically to hunt these sorts of people. There seems to be quite the concentration of fucked up people in the area, owing in no small part to the concentration of the depravity seemingly inherent in fame and wealth. She has been known to offer her services for /free/, should the effort in question be in relation to the ... 'rehabilitation' ... of such despicable peoples.
[[The Darkest of Webs]]:
She is very familiar with the dark web, its navigation, and the secrets it hopes to hold. She often uses this for the purposes of hunting the aforementioned predators, but she also uses it for the trade of her unusual creations. In the market for some weird science weaponry? You might know about her, and her wild inventions.
