Aging, early 40's power players are nearly as common in Los Angeles as that tropiest of tropes, the Nebraska 8 wanna-be starlet. Men playing at power, both real and imagined, is among the most common dysfunctional figures that any denizen of LA is likely to come across. Allard looks that part. He dresses that part. Most of the time, an exotic, fetching woman named Leila can be found, so at first blush, he acts that part.
Even brief conversation dispels those notions. Roland is not a silver-tongued charmer who leaves a trail of sighs and desire in his wake. Instead, a conversation with Allard generally leaves the impression that he is insightful, keenly observant, interested, self-aware, self-possessed, self-confident, and committed to understanding those around him. And where he is too direct, his ever-present partner, Leila, is there to act is the smooth, balming voice if diplomacy, etiquette, and taste.
