Biography
Jupiter Jazani grew up in Westwood, the youngest of four children. Her parents were Iranian immigrants who came to the US in the 80s for education. She was raised by two high-achieving scientists and was, as many Iranian-American and other hyphen kids experienced, heavily pushed to enter either the sciences or medicine. She chose medicine. Jupiter went to UCLA for her pre-med, graduating with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry. She was then accepted into Stanford medical school.
Graduating near the top of her class, she went on to do a surgical internship and followed up with a surgical residency. Not one to let her clinical skills be neglected and wanting to be a jill of all trades, Jupiter moonlighted at a local clinic, providing exams and general practitioner workups after she passed her boards. She took a fellowship position at UC Davis and remained in the Sacramento area for about ten years.
While in Sac, she spent her days between UC Davis and a low-income clinic in Del Paso Park. She also was an advocate for better medical treatment for the high Middle Eastern and North African (MENA) population of the area. She was eventually made clinic manager and has since sought to bring that same access to medicine for low-income populations to her hometown.
