Carlos de Saldana
The Vanijuan House of the kingdom of Leon was a rebel house during the middle ages, before the union of the crowns, the formation of modern Spain, and the Reconquista. Sandwiched between the Kings of Leon and Castille, they sought to gain power in their own right as the Christian kingdoms of Hispania jostled with one another.
Carlos traces his lineage back to a Baron of Saldana, in a line that became a minor pretender to the Crown of Leon, and thus, of Spain. His ancestors left for the New World early, as it was better to rule in the wilderness, than the serve in civilization. But the maintained the pretension, and in the Internet age, the Vanijuan house has a minor internet following.
The family also has some wealth left, from decades as plantation barons in the New World, enough to keep Carlos, third in line to the throne after his uncle Juan (who has no issue) and his father Carlos (five children by two mothers, Carlos being the eldest), comfortable enough.
Carlos, Baron Saldana, of course knows he will never be King of Spain. The current Kings of Spain are a national treasure after the end of Fascist rule in the country. The Spanish people even would support the current King getting MORE involved in national politics, as a statesman bringing parties together.
But part of the family business is to keep the pretension alive, and sell merchandise. So he does so. In fact, he runs the family business for his Uncle, the self-styled King of Leon, Emperor of Hispania.
