Gabriella was born in San Diego, California. Specifically, she was born and raised in Chula Vista, a fairly immigrant-heavy community in the city. She is a third generation immigrant, with her grandparents having snuck across the border to escape harsh living conditions in their tiny town in Central Mexico. Her dad works as a cook in a restaurant, while her mom spent hours and hours a week working as a maid at a motel. They were not fancy jobs, but her parents took care of Gabi and her several siblings, loving them intensely. They were a good, close family.
Gabi was always a tomboy, and she knew at a young age that she was gay. However, with her families strong Catholic beliefs, she was afraid to come out to them. She worked hard in school and just tried to be a good kid. She played a lot of softball and soccer, and while she loved it she never ascended past her school or neighborhood teams.
She was fourteen when her dad died in a car accident, killed by a drunk driver. Everything in her family started falling apart at that point. Her mom struggled to take care of her family, and Gabi's older sister dropped out of school to get a full-time job to help. Gabi continued school, but also started spending a lot of her off-time working as a neighborhood handygirl, fixing anything that needed fixing for small payments. At sixteen she got a job in a chinese restaurant around the corner, working in the kitchen.
Meanwhile, her entire life had always been a little bit weirder then most people. She'd never had a normal dream, for one. They were always filled with the weirdest, starkest contrasts of bright and dark. Weird creatures and primal feelings. Also, sometimes things would go missing or be found out of nowhere. As she got older she began to see things out of the corner of her eyes when in intense emotional situations, and she started to think she was going crazy.
At one point things became really rough at home, and her mom lost her job due to a back injury. Government aide helped some, but never enough to REALLY help. Desperate to help and filled with a lot of personal issues, her brother Alejandro joined a gang. That gang, however, was MS-13. Things around the house began to change swiftly. Things got dark and violent and cruel, and Gabi was furious and heartbroken. Her mom was too weak to do anything about it, and her older sister was too busy working 60 hours a week to notice what was going on.
Gabi confronted her brother and his friends one night, and they beat her black and blue. While she was in her room, heavily sedated on the painkillers her brother gave her in a spout of regret, she began to hallucinate. The drugs had been cut with something, it turns out. Either way, those hallucinations intensified further and further, until the weird things bled into real life. Amid her drug-fueled hallucinations she went through her First Change and fell into the Umbra on accident. When she came too she was miles from home and lost in the spirit world.
She was found by other Garou in the city, and taken to the Sept to recover and figure out what was going on. As far as her family knew, she simply went missing, as the Garou were adamant that the situation at home was not spiritually safe for her to return to. She ended up joining the Uktena, which she had slight ancestral connections to, and she began to delve deeply into Mexicana style rituals.
She was furious about the taint in her community spread by MS-13, and how easily they fell prey to predators due to the roughness of their treatment at the hands of law enforcement and the general country. That rage continued to build, and she delved deeper into 'spooky' rituals and thoughts. This is when she discovered the existence of Jaguar, and became obsessed with pledging to him. However, she had no intention of returning to Mexico to do so. Her fight was in America and the girl was not going to flee.
She heard through gossip in the Sept that a pack in Los Angeles was pledged to Jaguar, and that they were seeking members. So, she packed her few things and moved a few hours north, intent on joining River's pack.
- San Diego - Born and raised in Chula Vista. Gabi is a third generation Mexican immigrant. Southern California is in her blood and her style and her mind. She'd struggle anywhere else.
- Handy - She makes a living as a carpenter and handywoman. Her Rage makes most customers uncomfortable, so she rarely has return business, sadly. She scrapes by.
- Single - I know, can you believe it?
- Dark - She has a lot of problems, and some serious chips on her shoulder. She's delving deeper and deeper into dark secrets of the Spirit World, which is how she found her way to Jaguar.
- Gay - OMFG, so gay.
- Painting - She doesn't make a dime off of it, but the girl LOVES to paint and draw.
- Trans - Gabi is a trans girl. She is a bit awkward about this fact, as some Garou are super traditionalist, but...it's who she was before her Change, and it's who she is now.
