Hyojung Young, or rather 'Hyony' as known by her friends, grew up in Los Angeles. She's the daughter of a high ranking executive with a Korean automotive parts affiliate. While certainly not in the same category as the celebrities that rule the streets of LA, her family is certainly a member of the Millionaire Club. To say that she was spoiled growing up would be an understatement. Going to the beach during high tide for the best surfing or taking a yacht out to watch the sunset would be the norm for Hyony. If she's not enjoying an evening bonfire on the beach, she could be shopping with her friends with not a care in the world. Daddy's money helps make the world seem bright.
That would be until it came time to be an adult. Her father INSISTED that she go to college to become a productive member of society. She wasn't that skilled at dancing to get scholarships. She was just an average student (since she never truly applied herself in highschool) so UCLA was out of the question, and she settled for USC. Her major was 'General Studies', and eventually switched to East Asian Area Studies. She figured this would be an easy degree. Plus, it would help accommodate the fact that weekends start on Thursday while in college. But none of this made her feel complete.
Upon graduating from USC with that 2.5 GPA, Hyony decided that she would go "backpacking through Asia" - much like many Americans would go backpacking through Europe. Growing up, her father did make her take taekwondo classes and eventually shimgumdo. It was his way of giving her some sense of her family heritage while soaking up the luxuries of the United States. She wanted to connect with her heritage. All of her friends thought it sounded like a great adventure until they discovered she wasn't going "glamping" (glamorized camping). Rather, she was going to "rough it". No cell phones, no internet, no Daddy's money. How completely dreadful!
Well, something must have happened over in South Korea because she came back with a renewed purpose in life. She's become an active participant in helping the Korean community by donating financial resources or simply her own time to the Korean American Coalition, the Korean Resource Center, and Respect Community Center. Her father would still like to see her get a 'real' job, but for now philanthropy has taken hold.

Whether volunteering her time at the Korean Resource Center or the Respect Community Center, promoting activities and events sponsored by the Korean American Coalition, or donating financial resources to further improve the Korean community at large through grants and scholarships, the rich socialite has taken up philanthropy as a 'hobby'. |
| Rich Socialite | Hyony is the daughter of an executive to an automotive parts conglomerate, and thusly, she's the benefactor of his financial windfall. Her family gets invited to many of the chic galas and events held throughout the city. She knows where to shop when she wants to dress to impress, and has been known to be "seen on the scene". The biggest part about being a "socialite" is the first part, being social. Night clubs, concerts, galas, and fundraisers are all within her wheelhouse. |
| Martial Arts / Yoga / Fitness | Hyony is a practioner of Shim Gum Do, or "The Mind Sword" Path. It's the embodiment of Zen and Martial Arts. While not an instructor, she can be found at dojangs demonstrating her art. She's been known to go to various schools to do a 'performance' of the various forms, that the uneducated would call a 'sword dance'. When she's not practicing her Art, she could easily be found on the beach doing morning yoga or tai chi. Her regimen would also include going to the gym and working on sculpting her muscle definition or working on her cardio. Obviously, tending to the mind, body, and soul is a high priority for Hyony. |
| Beach Life / Surf's Up | Having grown up in California, Hyony can always be found on the beach somewhere. Whether it's early morning yoga or tai chi, or participating in 'Dawn Patrol' as the high tide rolls in, Hyony enjoys spending time near the ocean. An avid surfer, sure, but not enough to compete or be completely devoted to that lifestyle. With Daddy having a big bank account, evenings on a yacht to experience sunsets on the ocean is not out of the question. Plus, it's always a good time when you spend all day on the beach and capping off the evening by a bonfire. |
