1500 years ago, everybody "knew" that the Earth was the center of the universe. 500 years ago, everybody "knew" that the Earth was flat. And 15 minutes ago, you "knew" that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll "know" tomorrow. – Kay
Rico was never supposed to be like this. Growing up a poor kid with no particular prospects, and no culture around him that sought to bring out his innate talents, he joined the Marines.
The Marines however were capable of making more of what his talents are, and made him into an MP. Rocketing through the ranks, he retired a Staff Sergeant.
He might have stayed longer, but the Technocratic Union intervened. Attempting to recruit him as a Space Marine, the Void Engineers found that he was Extraordinary, and shunted him into training to make best use of him. That whirlwind exercise in training and indoctrination left him an agent in the Neutralization Specialist Corps, a long way from the Marine Corps.
No longer was he a Marine Cop. Now he's an alien cop. And that suits him fine, even if he's still gawking wide eyed at half the things he sees. Besides, he's back home in LA, and can go to as many Dodgers games as he wants.
