Episode 1 - "Onward. Without Fear or Doubt"
Wolfe appears standing in front of the camera, a background behind him of a hypertech advanced city of tomorrow behind him. An interpretation of the perfect blend of technology living in harmony with the natural environment. The camera angle pans, moving in a slow circle around the city in a time-lapse effect showing how the city evolves and grows over time. Days and nights. Sun and rain and snow. All of it streaming past as the city, like a living thing, builds and renews itself.
Wolfe himself is smiling, wearing a portwine tweed suit, eyes gleaming as he leans fashionably upon a cane. Everything about his speaks of confidence, of surety. This is the man with the answers. This is the person who knows the way, and when he speaks, his rich voice only pushes that idea forward. It was a voice built for public speaking or broadcasting. With its own gravitas, it pulls people in as much as it reassures and soothes.
"Hello, everyone. I'm Dr. Frank Wolfe, and this is The Limitless. On this show, we're going to explore the ephemeral line between what currently is, what could be tomorrow, and how we get there. Since the beginning, we have always reached for the next horizon as a species. We have looked to where the sun sets or rises, and asked where does it go? Where does it come from? What is over there? Our physical bodies are actually designed to grow through the process of adversity. Bones form micro cracks due to stress and gravity, and calcify. Muscles tear and repair and grow stronger. Our intellects devour information and struggle to make sense of it, growing our minds, and hopefully our wisdom too." As he talks, the background changes behind him. Caves in wilderness turn into primative villages, which turn into ancient cities. A history of human civilization and expansion seems to play out with myriad examples of cultures and societies across time and geography. Many look familiar. Some, not so much.
"The planet has been around for a very long time, and we as a species, have barely even scratched the surface, or have we? It seems our definitiions of when human civilation began keeps pushing back on the timeline as we keep digging things up. As our science and technology and our willingness to see with clear eyes continue to progress. On this show, we will explore the ancient world, speculate on the world of tomorrow, and look for the paths forward in the world we live in now. The dreams of today are the reality of tomorrow. The screen flows through references to technology in science fiction that didn't exist at the time of the writing with real world examples of that same technology in use today.
