OOC Information: The Sept of the Western Eye is a canon sept in the WTA books. While you can make use of the background information presented there, events and leadership of those books have been altered for the setting of LiberationMUSH. Description

The caern of the Sept of the Western Eye is located in a small hollow in the hills, deep in the redwoods of the Muir Woods National Monument. Muir Woods is surrounded by Mt. Tamalpais State Park, the tallest peak on the Marin peninsula, overlooking the San Francisco Bay to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. The inner bawn is a large clearing with young redwoods and traditionally painted stones, blocked by a boulder one must leap over (should the Garou park ranger allow it) in order to enter. The outer bawn extends to the boundaries of the State Park, and a complex series of hidden and magical paths directs human visitors and those without knowledge of the caern away from its heart. The Western Eye and the Sept of the Smiling Angel are connected via moon-bridge, though access is controlled primarily by the Western Eye's Gatekeeper.

History

Originally created by the Uktena hundreds of years ago, long before the Europeans came to the New World. In the early 1800s, the Uktena were all slain by a great, unknown evil said to have been present since the 1600s. The Black Furies of the region, believing the Uktena had awoken something monstrous, took over the caern and territory in their absence. In time, the Children of Gaia were invited to the Sept proper, but the descendants of the Uktena were never extended that favor, something that bothers the Children to this day.

In the early 1970s, Athena Beauregard and several militant members of the Black Furies left the Western Eye to join a coalition led by Mason King in fighting back the Wyrm in Los Angeles. Thus started the tradition of travelling south to prove one's self. When she died in combat, it was expected that her remains be returned to the Western Eye with honor, which King refused. There have been many explanations from both sides; ultimately the Western Eye believes this disrespected her sacrifice, and led to a chilling of relations between the two Septs during the 80s and early 90s.

Sept Members (NPC)

Black Furies

  • Xenia, Elder Philodox — Sept Alpha. An uncompromising leader who believes that the lands of the Western Eye were ordained to the Furies by Gaia. While she turns a blind eye to homosexuality, she is otherwise an extremely traditional Black Fury; a mindset that often runs against the modern viewpoints of the Children of Gaia that share their Sept.
  • Zephyra, Athro Ahroun — Wyrmfoe. Leads a pack of experienced adren in their 30s. Heavily misandrist, she is known to be abusive towards male Fury Metis as well as males who were given to the Children of Gaia. Rumored to speak ill of Liam, and would seek to challenge him for the position of Smiling Angel's Sept Alpha for weakness, but lacks the means for an effective claim. Apparently has some animosity for Elyse due to an insult about her Camp.
  • Khalkeus, Metis Athro Galliard — Gatekeeper . An albino with one solid white eye who has a calm and meditative demeanor, and highly capable when it comes to matters of spirits. On friendly terms with Smiling Angel's Gatekeeper, Only-Ghosts-Behind-Him. Known to have mentored Alexa and Ashlynn.
  • Eyes-of-Redwood, Lupus Adren Theurge — Den Mother. She often relinquishes the duties of this role in order to focus on rearing her own litters of lupus kinfolk deep within the Wyld forests. Mother of Dusk. Known to have mentored Elyse.
RP Hooks
  • Informal Exchange Program — Historically, cubs and cliaths of the Smiling Angel would be sent north in order to be "wetted and vetted" in the relatively safer environment; the harsh realities of Los Angeles often proving fatal to young cubs and cliaths. In return, older cliaths and fosterns of the Western Eye looking to make a name for themselves travel south to win renown and test their mettle. Particularly those of the Black Furies, who follow in the footsteps of Athena Beauregard.
  • No Opportunity for Advancement — A byproduct of a stable Sept leaves little to those lowest in station. Likewise, all sept officer positions are firmly held by renowned elders, supported by an entrenched old guard of like-minded individuals. Leadership challenges are exceedingly rare, and those who fill positions when (if) they open are equally as qualified as their predecessors. However, struggles in the Smiling Angel leave key roles and renown opportunities available for Garou as young as cliath to step up and make a name for themselves.
  • Searching for Acceptance — While the leadership are Black Furies, their traditional nature places them within the camp of exclusionary feminists. It isn't known whether Pegasus will accept those of different gender identities or not, for the tribal leaders at the Western Eye will refuse to perform the Rite of Passage for anyone who isn't born female (or Metis, owing to Pegasus' ancient pact). The sizable contingent of Children will provide a home for those who are cast out from their birth heritage, but the constant reminder can be too much for someone so full of Rage.
