        • Kinfolk allocate (6/4/3) dots.
        • Example: +selfstat Charisma=3 would set your Charisma to 3.

        • Example: A Bone Gnawer PC would type: +selfstat Willpower=4
      • Set Starting Renown
        • SHIFTER HOUSE RULE: All Garou start with 3 dots of Renown that they can allocate to Glory, Honor, or Wisdom.
          • Example: Begin with Glory 2 and Honor 1 by typing +selfstat Glory=2 followed by +selfstat Honor=1
          • Example: Begin with Wisdom 3 by typing +selfstat Wisdom=3
      • Select Starting Ways
        • SHIFTER HOUSE RULE: See the Renown, Gifts, and Camps Update for a detailed information on Liberation MUSH’s Werewolf Progression.

          • Example: Her packmate, an Ahroun with only Glory 3, will only have access to the Ways of Glory for her Breed, Tribe, and Auspice, but have access to the Gifts deeper within the Way (Up to Level 3).
      • Spend freebie points (15)
        • Kinfolk get 21 freebie points
        • Merits cost 1 freebie point per dot.
          • GENERAL HOUSE RULE: Supernatural characters are limited to 10 dots of Merits. Languages do not count against this limit. (+bbread 2/11 – and also see +selflang)

        • Attributes cost 5 freebie points per dot.
        • GENERAL HOUSE RULE: All Abilities & Secondary Abilities cost 1 freebie point per dot, up until level 3. They cost 2 freebie points per dot to raise above 3.
        • Backgrounds cost 1 freebie point per dot.
        • New Ways, or Raising a Way, costs a flat 7 freebie points per dot.
        • Rage costs 1 freebie point per dot.
        • Gnosis costs 2 freebie points per dot.
        • GENERAL HOUSE RULE: Willpower costs 2 freebie points per dot, and may not be raised in chargen more than three dots above your tribe’s starting Willpower rating.
    • Spend Tier XP
      • Depending on the nature of your application, and whether you are applying for an incentivized PC or a leadership feature, you might be able to buy additional stats with Tier XP in Chargen, which doesn’t count against your eventual softcap.
      • Use +selfstat to set these XP purchases the same as above, and make a +note recording your spends, as described below.
      • There is a list of available Shifter Tiers for potential application found later on this page.
      • GENERAL HOUSE RULE: Willpower costs a flat 10 XP per dot to raise.
      • GENERAL HOUSE RULE: Backgrounds and Merits cost a flat 5 XP per dot to purchase.
      • SHIFTER HOUSE RULE: Renown acquisition is handled differently here. Please see the Renown, Gifts, and Camps Update for more detailed information.
        • The first dot of a Renown Trait (such as buying Glory, Honor or Wisdom from 0 > 1 costs 10 XP in play. Every subsequent dot 2-10 costs (New Rating * 5). As such, raising Glory 1 > 2 would cost 10 XP, and raising Glory 2 > 3 would cost 15 XP and so on.
        • Every newly purchased Renown dot brings with it a free increase in one of your innate Ways. It can raise any Way associated with that Renown Trait, although the most XP efficient choice would be to choose your highest Way in order to maximize the return on your investment.
    • +sheet Finishing Touches: Make sure you’ve set all the following on your +sheet
      • +selfstat Concept=<2-3 word concept>
      • +selfstat Birthdate=<birthdate>
      • +selfstat Nature=<Nature Archetype>
      • +selfstat Demeanor=<Demeanor Archetype>
      • +selfstat Full Name=<Your full, legal name, or whatever if a Lupus or Metis.>
    • Begin setting up your +notes (see +help notes). Here are a few examples that most players will have:
      • +note/story me/Backstory=<Your character’s backstory>
        • See pages 117-121 of the W20 Corebook for inspiration as to fleshing out your character’s ‘spark of life’ and the sort of questions that should be addressed in your Backstory.
        • TLDR: I am mostly looking for evidence that you are familiar with our shifter sphere’s backstory, and seem to understand that the kind of Garou drawn to an urban caern set in the heart of Los Angeles will be a bit different from the typical Garou found in a typical rural caern set far from civilization near a pristine waterfall.
        • Please stop writing your backstory when you’re no longer having fun with it. If your own character’s backstory is boring even to you, imagine how boring it will be to someone else reading it.
        • I’m more curious about what your character has done lately, and the circumstances of their First Change, then paragraphs upon paragraphs devoted to their early childhood. I’m fine with you beginning at your First Change!
      • +note/backgrounds me/<Background>=<Any background that needs explanation, like Fetish, Allies or Contacts.>
      • +note/merits me/<Merit name>=<A description of any Merit that needs further explaining or justification.>
      • +note/flaws me/<Flaw name>=<A description of any Flaw that needs further explaining, such as Enemy.>
      • +notes/general me/Freebies=<What you spent your freebie points on>
      • +notes/general me/Tier XP=<A record of how you spent any Tier XP that you were granted in chargen.>
      • If Metis, +note/story me/Deformity=<The nature of your defomity, see page 74 of the W20 Corebook>
    • Finally, consider setting your +finger (+help +finger) and descriptions (+help +mdesc). You are not required to have a description for every form prior to approval. You must have at least a Homid form description however, (which can be set with @desc me=<description> if mdesc is too scary).
    • When you’re completely done, type +approveme
    • If you’re a Garou or a Garou Kinfolk, you can also earn an easy nom by making a post on +bboard 21, giving your character’s name in the title, and telling the rest of the sphere what might be known about your character ICly. You can either present this as a straight bulletpointed info dump, or a letter, or like a one-sided IC conversation, or vi any other narrative technique. It’ll help you find RP and get integrated into the Sept.

Fera CGEN

Provided you have access to Changing Breeds 20th Anniversary Edition, you should have no problem adapting the above guide to chargenning a Fera PC. I will eventually provide something equivalent to the above for all races, whereupon their individual examples will be linked here.

Kinfolk CGEN

Kinfolk utilize many of the same commands as given in the Garou example. However you will want to reference Pages 379-381 of the W20 Corebook for Kinfolk-specific numbers and merits, as well as the W20 Kinfolk book for more information such as Numina. You can also find Numina and some relevant Backgrounds in Hunters Hunted 2. Kinfolk will also interact with the yet to be published Influence system in a special way.

The major difference between Kinfolk and Garou, is that Kinfolk are allowed to have more than ten dots of Merits, as long as they’re not a ‘supernatural Kinfolk’. You become a supernatural Kinfolk if you acquire Gnosis, Gifts or Numina, and are then restricted to 10 dots of Merits like all other supernaturals.

You are allowed to have one Kinfolk character in addition to a Shifter character, however there is still a requirement to avoid any Conflict of Interest type situations.
